Dick Jacobson serves as an advisor to AltEnergy, LLC. In 1968 Dick founded Action Warehouse which was the predecessor company to the Jacobson Warehouse Company. Today, Jacobson Warehouse Company is one of the largest privately owned public warehouse companies in the United States. Jacobson Warehouse Company has facilities encompassing more than thirty-five million square feet.
Over the years, Dick expanded the organization to include Jacobson Investment Company, Jacobson Packaging Company, Jacobson Logistics Company, Jacobson Staffing Company, Jacobson-Wilpak, and Jacobson-AWG. Jacobson is Chairman of the Board of all of the companies that employ more than 8,000 people in 200 locations and 85 cities.
One of Dick's most recent business adventures was in the ethanol industry where he served as Chairman of the Board of Hawkeye Renewables, LLC. When Hawkeye was sold in 2006 it was the third largest producer of ethanol in the United States.
In 1976, Dick established the Richard O. Jacobson Foundation. His generosity helped build buildings that bear his name at The University of Iowa, Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa, Drake University, Grand View University, Exchange City, Youth and Shelter Services, Special Olympics of Iowa, Science Center of Iowa, Orchard Place, and numerous others.
